wine cellar shuttering put to the test!

Today after a long wait the, waterproof concrete arrived the shutter was ready and it went well aside from the poker breaking down half way through. There was some slight deflection in the timbers at the end of the shutter but nothing to major.

Wine cellar shuttering

This is a 3m x 1.7m wine cellar I'm currently working on, it will be housed under a block and beam floor within a new contempory glass extension.
The ground works are being carried out by Jordan-contracts, the hole dug out and the base concreted I spent the day constructing a former for the walls.
Its constructed from 4x2 & 18mm ply and braced through out.
A digger will lower the whole assembly into place and a 200mm cavity all around filled with rebar will be cast in water proof concrete.

Solid sapele floating alcove shelving

First I marked out for the supports with a laser level. The battens are 25mm x 15mm and stop short of the face of the shelf by 50mm.

Next there are several ways to scribe alcoves but with the sapele being so expensive I didn't want to take any chances, so some hardboard ripped to the size of the shelves took the risk out.
Also being able to bend the hardboard helped.

I marked round my templates onto my shelves cut to rough shape then belt sanded to fit.

With the alcove wider at the back the shelves can't be slid in, they have to be lifted in on the angle and then lowered into position but the thickness increases the size. So I had to make them a couple of mm smaller than the opening just to get them in.

Now with all the shelves in I marked around the batten, then with my router set to the size of the batten I routed a rebate to take the batten ! Result a simple method for a solid hidden fixing.
